A new chapter of green development spectrum, Beijing ABB Low-voltage Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. won the "Platinum Level" certification for zero landfill of waste.

Jul 18, 2024

Recently, Beijing ABB Low-voltage Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. passed the UL2799 Zero Landfill Certification and obtained the highest grade "Platinum Grade" certificate. This is the first factory in China where ABB won the highest grade of UL 2799 Zero Landfill and the fourth UL 2799 certificate that ABB obtained in China. Previously, Xiamen ABB Low-voltage Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd., ABB Xinhui Low-voltage Switch Co., Ltd. and Xiamen ABB Switch Co., Ltd. all obtained the gold-level certification of "zero landfill of waste" based on UL 2799 standard.

With the further development of modern industry, the amount of waste is increasing day by day, which leads to the destruction of environment and ecology. How to treat wastes in a safe and environmentally friendly way is very important to the manufacturing field. UL 2799 Verification Procedure for Environmental Statement of Zero Landfill Waste (ECVP) is the first standard to put forward the waste conversion scheme and calculation method completely. At the same time, it is also one of the most stringent standards at present, which requires enterprises to achieve at least 90% waste conversion through non-waste power generation [1], that is, the conversion rate is greater than 90%, before they can qualify for Zero Waste to Landfill certification (90-94% conversion rate is silver certification; The conversion rate of 95-99% is gold certification; The conversion rate is 100% platinum grade). Obtaining platinum certification means that no waste can be sent to the landfill during the production process. Adhering to the concept of sustainable development, Beijing ABB Low-voltage Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. started the "Zero Landfill of Waste" certification project in February this year, and made an in-depth analysis of the whole process of production, processing, use and waste disposal of raw materials, and reduced, reused and recycled waste in all aspects of operation. Promote the chemical reduction project, reduce the generation of hazardous waste, change the treatment method of kitchen waste, reduce the incineration rate of waste, recycle plastic packaging boxes, and reduce the use of packaging materials in logistics. In addition, all waste disposal suppliers are trained to improve the efficient conversion in the waste disposal stage, implement sustainable development, and realize 100% conversion rate of all wastes generated in the factory's own operation process. Finally, after five months of identifying and implementing various recycling projects, collecting and sorting out data, clarifying several rounds of documents and on-site auditing, ABB received the certification of UL 2799 platinum-level zero landfill on July 5, realizing another milestone on the road of sustainable development.

Zou Enchang, vice president of ABB Electric China and Asia-Pacific head of smart building, said, "ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and promoting the symbiotic development of enterprises and the environment through innovative technical products and solutions. This time, we won the platinum certification of zero landfill of waste, which fully demonstrated our exploration and efforts in zero landfill of waste, and also demonstrated our firm commitment to promote sustainable development. ABB will continue to promote green development, actively implement the system standards of green manufacturing in the process of production and operation, establish a green supply chain, and actively move towards a net zero future.
