1397-B020N A-B programmable controller module
The EtherNet/IP network offers a full suite of control, configuration, and data collection services by layering the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™) over the standard internet protocols, such as TCP/IP and UDP. This combination of well-accepted standards provides the capability that is required to support information data exchange and control applications. The EtherNet/IP network uses commercially available Ethernet components and physical media, providing you with a cost-effective plant-floor solution. The ControlLogix EtherNet/IP communication modules provide these features: • Support for messaging, produced/consumed tags, HMI, and distributed I/O • The ability to encapsulate messages within the standard TCP/UDP/IP protocol • A common application layer with ControlNet and DeviceNet networks • Network connections via an RJ45 cable • Support half/full duplex 10 MB or 100 MB operation • Support standard switches You indirectly determine the number of connections the controller uses by configuring the controller to communicate with other devices in the system. Connections are allocations of resources that provide more reliable communication between devices as compared to unconnected messages. All EtherNet/IP connections are unscheduled. The requested packet interval (RPI) for I/O control or the program, such as an MSG instruction triggers an unscheduled connection. Unscheduled messaging lets you send and receive data when needed.
